Dear Colorado ENA member,
It’s that time of year again!! The Colorado ENA Injury Prevention Committee is coordinating a statewide seat belt awareness campaign in conjunction with the Colorado Department of Transportation’s “Click it or Ticket” campaign. Emergency nurses are constantly faced with the consequences of unrestrained motor vehicle travelers. We are very much aware of the devastation and life changing events which occur as a result of motor vehicle crashes. We also know that many of the injuries we take care of may have been prevented had the persons involved been restrained appropriately. As one of the most trusted professions, we have an opportunity to provide information and education to those we care for in the Emergency department. We would like to provide a “unified” message from our ENA members across the state. So we are asking for your help in doing this. Here is how you can help!
What: Statewide distribution of educational materials about seat belt use for 2 weeks to
all patients discharged from ED’s across the state.
Where: All ED’s in Colorado
When: “Click it or Ticket” campaign is during May and early June. We will distribute our fliers from May 20th-June 10th.
How: We are seeking liaisons from across the state to assist us in this project. All materials would be provided through Colorado ENA. Each liaison would facilitate the project in their ED. If interested in being a liaison for your ED please contact Jeanne Arnold at 303-425-2084 or the email below ASAP. Please include an address so I can mail the fliers.
Why: As a trusted professional we have a unique opportunity to educate our communities about seat belt use and encourage people to use them. Seat Belts do save lives and we can potentially encourage people to wear them. There is strength in numbers and together WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
Thank you,
Jeanne Arnold, RN, ND, CNS, CEN

ENA Foundation

The 2011 State Challenge has begun! As past president and now as now the ENAF board of trustees I am asking that you seriously consider donating on behalf of our great state.
It was once said that we ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop. I see the 2011 ENA Foundation as an example of the big ocean where every little drop is a donation and that drop makes a BIG difference to the recipient. I see it as a legacy by helping to build our future nurses.
This is our biggest and most important fundraising event and our goal is $100,000 for the nation. In 2010 we donated $2,205.00 and 2009 we donated $1,175. I believe that in 2011 we can blow these past fabulous figures out of the water.
Please help me by donating today at http://www.ena.org/foundation/contribution/Pages/Default.aspx
The mission of the ENA Foundation is to provide educational scholarships and research grants in the discipline of emergency nursing this in turn improves the quality of care we deliver “stretcher side”.
ENAF is invaluable for nurses today and tomorrow; it can only succeed with firm commitments from you and our magnificent Coloradoan state.
Respectfully,
